You've just finished your nursing program and
are studying hard for the NCLEX-RN. Take some time away from the books to
prepare your resume for the pending job market. Here are a few tips to get you
started:
5. Instagram
We live in a time when image trumps text.
People's eyes are instantly drawn to an image when looking at a page of notes.
You should always include a photo when building a resume. This will set you
apart, making your application far more memorable.
4. Bio Box
Do not copy and paste your Twitter Bio (we're
looking at you 'lover-of-cats and rider-of-unicorns"). Create a fresh bio
that encapsulates your spirit and desire to pursue a career in nursing. Keep it
short and talk briefly about your life experiences thus far, your goals in the
nursing industry and the strengths you will bring to the job. Conclude with the
reasons why you would be an excellent hire.
3. Space Invaders
Do not try to squeeze two pages into one. Keep
it open and inviting. Use formatting to your advantage and make the page easy
to scan. If you are lacking space, do another edit, eliminating all unnecessary
text.
2. Portable Document Format
Make a digital copy of your resume in a format
that can't be manipulated. Do not attach or mail Word documents with personal
information. Always include your resume as a PDF.
1.
Sell Your Skills
Include an expertise section and document your
skills. Use bullet points to highlight your proficiency areas. Make sure to
Include a list of medical-related software that you are familiar with.
Hope this helps and good luck with the
applications!
