Spots still available for PRIMED CRNE Prep Course!

It’s not too late!

I know that the last week of summer makes us all feel a little lazy and we can tend to put things off, but the CRNE is right around the corner! If you haven’t registered for a PRIMED course coming up in September, you may not know what you still need to focus on with your studying. It’s better to focus on your areas of weakness at this point in the game and what better way to find your strengths and weaknesses than in one of the courses. The instructors go through all the competencies and make sure you are totally PRIMED for your exam!

Now is the time to register and ensure you are 100% ready for your exam and entry into practice!
If you’re wanting more information about what is expected of you when you DO enter practice as an RN, the College of Registered Nurses of Ontario has a great pdf with all the competencies that you should have: http://www.cno.org/Global/docs/reg/41037_EntryToPracitic_final.pdf

Another important thing to remember is to keep getting your exercise, sleep and proper nutrition. These are the things that are easiest to drop when you’re finding you have little time but keeping up your healthy routines will definitely help you in the long run!

Happy studying! Hope to see you in one of our September courses.

Get PRIMED for your CRNE exam; you’ll never regret being more prepared!

Hello world! I am the new student blogger here with PRIMED. I’m going to be writing about current issues in nursing, up coming opportunities to get prepared for the CNRE, and experiences of being a student.
So, a little bit about me… I am a 3rd year student in a BScN program. I have an interest in community/ public health nursing. I dabbled in a few other university programs before settling on nursing. One day I want to travel to developing countries to volunteer my nursing services, but I need to graduate and build my nest egg a bit first. I’m passionate about health care equity, and I believe in the power of ordinary people who are brave enough to do the right thing, even when it’s hard.
I am open to your suggestions! If you have a topic that other people would be interested in, or you just want to let me know what you think you can also follow PRIMED on Twitter @crneprep and I can tweet you back

I look forward to sharing with you!

CRNE studying over the holidays

Studying for exams over the holidays can be really tough between travelling to visit family and friends, cooking, shopping and all of those other fun things. However, it is important you commit to studying for a specified amount of time every day. Even if you only study for  a couple of hours from now until New Year's and then ramp up the time afterward it's better than blowing off studying all together.

PRIMED recommends getting up a descent time in the morning and getting it out of the way with while having a couple cups of coffee or tea so that you can have the rest of your day to work, exercise or spend with your family.

Then in January take PRIMED's 2 day prep workshop to really get you ready and primed for the exam in February. To register online visit www.primededucation.ca

Rewriting the CRNE

If you were unsuccessful on the CRNE, you are not alone. For various reasons some students are unsuccessful on the exam and are devastated with their result. Perhaps you were overly anxious, fatigued, ill or had other life altering factors that did not allow you to focus and perform your best.We want to let you know that you are not alone. We hear from many students that are unsuccessful and many times all they need is structured review course to help them focus their studying and increase their confidence and decrease their anxiety.

PRIMED has a lot of experience in helping unsuccessful students become successful. We encourage students to reach out to other students, mentors or teachers for support. In addition, students may want to consider enrolling in the PRIMED Workshops or private tutoring to increase their chance of being successful on the rewrite.

For more information please read The Canadian Nurses Association's FAQ page regarding rewriting the CRNE at:

CRNE Tips

Are you writing the upcoming June 2012 CRNE? Here are some tips to help you out:

1. Always remember to utilize the nursing process when you are thinking through questions:
Assessment, Planning, Implementation/Intervention, Evaluation
For example, before administering pain medication the nurse would have to assess the patient thoroughly using: PQRST, COLDSPA or OLDCARTS. This is vital for the nurse in developing an appropriate plan. What the nurse is going to plan will be dependent on many factors such as the location of the pain. Is it cardiac in nature? Or, is is it arthritic pain they have been experiencing for the last 10 year in their knees?

2. Simulate exam conditions. We recommend students find a practice exam and sit down for 4 hours, with no interruptions (i.e. no FB, texting or phone calls)  to mimic exam conditions as much as possible. If you're looking for a mock CRNE, try PRIMED's 200 question mock CRNE. You can purchase at www.primededucation.ca then click on the Quizzes tab.

3. Make sure you feel comfortable with common clinical conditions that you spend a fair amount of time learning about in nursing school such as: Heart Failure, Hypertension, Myocardial Infraction, Diabetes, Care of Post operative patients and palliative patients. Diabetes, Lung cancer, asthma, COPD etc.

Good luck!!
